US: BlueToad – a content delivery platform – has achieved a Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 certification.
WCAG 2.1 covers recommendations for making web content more accessible, particularly for people with disabilities including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological.
“We’ve seen a recent increase in requests for accessible content solutions,” remarked Paul DeHart, CEO of BlueToad. “ADA compliance offers many benefits for organisations, but in certain cases has become a legal necessity. The WCAG projects we recently completed are proof that we are a platform dedicated not just to offering a great digital content experience, but to also ensuring this content reaches as broad an audience as possible for our customers.”
BlueToad’s most recent certification project was completed for Historic Hotels of America and its 2019 Annual Directory – the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The service involved leveraging platform functionality with enhanced data entry to provide textual equivalents to visual elements.
BlueToad has also tested its platform internally as well as with the assistance of a third-party accessibility consultancy. This has been accomplished by manual, human audits using screen-reading technology and supporting tools, as well as algorithmic-based automated tests using scanning software.
A Voluntary Product Accessibility Template has since been issued, which represents a self-assessment and public declaration of a product’s adherence to digital accessibility standards.
