Worldwide: Operto Guest Technologies has released its latest report detailing how changes in hotel management practices can boost revenue.

The report, titled Sustainable Hotels: How Going Green Helps Your Hotel, outlines four key data trends:

1) Reducing plastic – 64 per cent of respondents said they were most worried about the volume of single-use plastic, such as keycards, cutlery, and disposable water bottles.

2) Energy and water – One in five surveyed said they were most worried about energy and temperature waste during a hotel stay.

3) Revenue – 86 per cent said they would pay more for an eco-friendly hotel, whereas 75 per cent would pay more to stay in a green hotel.

4) Bookings – 53 per cent said that they check for eco-friendliness before booking, indicating green credentials are attractive to travellers.

One of the respondents, Andre Robles, managing director at Voyagers Travel Company, reported that guests are asking for eco-friendly options: “Guests already expect all properties we choose for them to be eco-friendly. If a property has bad practices, then no matter how much money they can save, they will not stay there.”

Steve Davis, CEO at Operto, said: “The pandemic has created new ways of doing business that stand to benefit both the broader economy and the environment. “Smart” businesses are looking at their business models, budgets, and future plans, with an eye to serving younger generations that demand a shift to green alternatives.”
