Switzerland: Luxury brand Lalique has opened its first boutique hotel in Zurich, occupying a heritage-listed building on Florhofgasse between the Old Town and university quarter.
Villa Florhof was first mentioned in records in 1447, when the estate formed part of the holdings associated with Zurich’s reformed protestant church Grossmünster.
Over the years, the house passed through the hands of merchants, physicians, craftsmen, and civiv figures, eventually becoming known as a retreat for artists, writers and intellectuals.
In 1973, the principal elements of the property were placed under formal heritage protection. In 2022, Swiss entrepreneurs Silvio Denz and Peter Spuhler acquired the building, enabling its recent restoration.
Villa Florhof now offers 13 rooms and suites, a bar and brasserie with a garden terrace, wine cellar, a cigar lounge, and a restaurant due to open later this year in autumn.
Green & Mingarelli Design supported with the property’s restoration, overseeing the hotel’s architecture and design. The Lalique Interior Design Studio has contributed a bespoke programme of crystal panels, architectural glass and lighting, each created specifically for hotel.
General manager Tanja Wegmann has overseen the transformation of the hotel.
Villa Florhof joins the Lalique Hospitality portfolio alongside Villa René Lalique and Château Hochberg in Alsace; Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey in Bordeaux; and The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant in Scotland.
