Ewald joined the Imagination Group as an Associate Director of Virgile and Stone in 2008 and is an integral member of the Retail and Leisure team. His role is to creatively lead and work closely together with the team to develop projects from the initial concept stage, through to the detailing and construction delivery stages.
With a degree in architectural engineering, Ewald extended his studies with a BA Hons in Interior and Product Design at the Academy of Arts in Maastricht and later took a Masters Degree in Retail & Communication Design at the Piet Zwart Institute. Ewald has gathered extensive knowledge in the different design fields and processes and both the Netherlands and UK in a number of prestigious projects in retail, hospitality, offices, museums and residential sector, from new built to listed renovations.
Ewald started his career at Amsterdam-based Merkx & Girod, where he had the chance to work on some exciting projects, such as the Van Gogh Museum, the government advisory body “Raad Van State”, the Amsterdam headquarters for Ernst & Young and heading up the design of four new stores for the Dutch department store de Bijenkorf.
After moving to London, he was lead designer on high end residential projects, such as Pan Peninsula, Baltimore Wharf and the Tapestry Building.
As a key member of the team, he now heads up prestigious projects such as the luxury department store DLT in St Petersburg, the refurbishment of the Crowne Plaza hotel in Belgrade, Ritz Carlton in Bangalore, the new Andaz Hyatt hotel in Delhi, the Address Boulevard in Dubai and the new Harrods Rooms of Luxury, Shinsegae, Rubaiyat, as well as the development of the new Harvey Nichols concepts for Birmingham and the London flagship.
