US: Chesapeake Hospitality has announced the management and redevelopment of the Mount Vernon Hotel in Baltimore.

Located off W. Franklin Street, the property will be redeveloped into a 170-room Hotel Indigo. It was the first YMCA in Baltimore and became the Mount Vernon Hotel in 1907.

Chesapeake Hispitality MD Kim Sims said: “Chesapeake’s own 57-year history as a Maryland-based company coupled with our diverse hotel management experience, make this a perfect partnership. Our goal in repositioning this celebrated property is to preserve its legacy while creating a hotel that will become part of the city’s historic atmosphere for years to come. The renovated Hotel Indigo will have an ambiance of a private club while being updated to today’s standards.”

The $20 million project will start this autumn, with Kinsley Construction taking on a renovation which will encompass the lobby, restaurant, bar, guest rooms and meeting space.
