US: 21c Museum Hotels has opened its second property, a $56 million project in Cincinnati.

The hotel is the result of a three year renovation of the 100-year-old former Metropole Hotel in the city centre.

Like all the company’s properties, the Cincinnati hotel doubles as a contemporary art museum.  21c Museum hotels CEO and co-founder Steve Wilson describes the 21c properties the only museums in the country that are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are free to visit. The Cinncinati hotel is also home to the Metropole restaurant, led by executive chef Michael Paley.

It features 8,000 square feet of exhibition, meeting and event space, with a spa and rooftop bar still to open.

“The location is perfect, it could not be any better,” said Wilson.

Wilson and his wife, Laura Lee Brown, opened their first hotel in Louisville, Kentucky in 2005. The Cincinnati hotel is their second location, with a third scheduled to open soon in Bentonville, Arkansas, and a fourth to follow, also in Louisville.
