Avon Gorge hotel to reopen next week

UK: Bristol’s Avon Gorge hotel will reopen as Avon Gorge by Hotel du Vin on 24 August 2018.

The property is set above the Avon Gorge, with panoramic views of Brunel’s Clifton Suspension Bridge, the gorge and the city itself. Dating back to 1898, the grand Victorian building was originally known as the Grand Clifton Spa and Hydropathic Institution and attracted aristocrats and gentry from across the country.

The 78 bedrooms and suites have been renovated and feature artworks with “quirky British humour designed to appeal to all guests”. Existing features have been retained and enhanced yet in a more contemporary manner, which is also reflected throughout the new lounge bar and reception areas.

Avon Gorge by Hotel du Vin features a new meeting, event and private dining suite, located in the former spa pump rooms. The space retains many historic features uncovered during the renovation, including the steam pumps for the former spa, the original Turkish bath doorways, original marble staircase, tiled flooring, and stained-glass windows. Hotel du Vin’s signature wine cellar is housed within the former Turkish baths.

The hotel is also home to Goram & Vincent – a new restaurant concept developed by Hotel du Vin specifically for this property, inspired by the local legend of two giants, Goram and Vincent.

“We’re thrilled that Hotel du Vin has become part of this much-loved hotel’s incredible history”, said Scott Harper, chief operating officer of Malmaison Hotel du Vin Group. “It’s been a special journey for us, and we’re looking forward to showcasing the Avon Gorge by Hotel du Vin in all its glory.”
