Africa: Luxury Spanish hotel brand, Gran Meliá Hotels & Resorts, have announced the opening of their first property in Africa – Gran Meliá Arusha.
Based in the heart of Arusha in the northern part of Tanzania, the luxury hotel will feature 171 rooms and suites designed with earthy interiors and contemporary furniture.
Rooms are complete with private balconies offering views over Mount Meru and the hotel’s surrounding gardens.
Other features include a 600-person conference centre and meeting facilities, a gym, hairdressing salon, shopping boutique, a spa and wellness centre, along with on-site dining options.
Gran Meliá Arusha’s signature restaurant, Yellow Chilli, is by celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor. Its menu is inspired by the Punjab region of India and the traditional dishes of the Mughal Empire.
A separate, all-day dining option, Saba Saba, offers a varied menu of local and seasonal recipes with international influences. All dishes are prepared in front of diners in an open kitchen design.
The Coffee Shop will serve coffee and tea sourced form the plantations surrounding the hotel, whereas the rooftop bar will serve cocktails alongside a Peruvian-Spanish fusion menu.
In line with the Meliá Hotels International’s strive to become environmentally conscious, the hotel has been created with eco-friendly materials and a plastic-free commitment. Guest’s water will be bottled on-site, and the hotel’s spice and vegetable garden will supply the restaurants with seasonal produce.
A series of activities, experiences, and private tours are also available for guests to partake in. Options include a visit to Tarangire National Park, a hot air balloon ride, or hiking up Mount Kilimanjaro.
Gran Meliá Arusha is located within the same area of two other Meliá-operated hotels: Meliá Zanzibar, an all-inclusive beach resort, and Meliá Serengeti Lodge, a safari location. Other hotels in the portfolio include Gran Meliá Iguazu in Argentina, Meliá London Kensington in the UK, and Meliá Desert Palm in Dubai.
