US: Hotel Indigo has announced a partnership with a Chattanooga based firm to bring a new hotel to Huntsville Alabama.

The building, which will be overseen by ViaNova Developments, will be the first Hotel Indigo in North Alabama and the third in the state as a whole, following locations in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa.

Construction is planned to take place within the new MidCity District, an experimental mixed-use development designed to spur growth within the abandoned shopping mall space. The $850 million dollar project was ranked as the fourth largest commercial real-estate project in the US.

“By celebrating local art, music and food, Hotel Indigo delivers a genuine boutique hotel,” Max Grelier, co-founder of MidCity developer RCP Companies, said in the announcement. “Hotel Indigo’s commitment to the local culture is truly aligned with the MidCity District mission.”

The Hotel is expected to begin construction in the spring, featuring five stories and 120 rooms for guests coming to visit the rocket city, with aims to open in 2021 at the earliest. It is planned to be nearby such attractions as TopGolf and a public park, featuring a planned major amphitheatre for the city.

“The growth in Huntsville has be amazing and we are proud to join the community as we have seen similar explosive development in our home city of Chattanooga,” said ViaNova managing partner Vyomesh Desai. “We are looking forward to bringing a truly boutique experience that embodies the cultural assets of the ‘Rocket City’ to the MidCity development.”

The appalachian south has become a popular place to open new hotels, with Marriott set to open the Grand Bohemian in Charlotte in early 2020. With money flowing into Hunstville through this development, the locale may be set for more development as the year progresses.
