US: Metro Hotel in San Francisco has been added to the Life House portfolio, marking the second hotel to be operated in Northern California by the group this year.

Metro Hotel is located in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco. Ted and Ellen Soulis first purchased the property in 1985. As well as proprietor of the hotel, Ted was also a painter having trained at the San Francisco Art Institute. His work is featured throughout the hotel.

When Ted passed away in 2007, his wife Ellen and daughter Shana Soulis have managed the property since.

It will join Casa Secoya, a lifestyle hotel on the banks of the Russian River in Sonoma Wine Country. Life House added Casa Secoya to its portfolio earlier this year, and has other projects in advanced negotiation throughout the region.

“We are thrilled for the opportunity to operate the Metro Hotel, a local favourite in the Haight-Ashbury neighbourhood”, said Eric Gunderson, VP of West Coast acquisitions for Life House. “We look forward to taking the reins on day-to-day operations while preserving the authentically local experience that guests have grown to love since the mid-1980s.”

Life House has a target of 10 properties under management in the state prior to the year end, with a focus on urban and drive-to markets across California.
