AUS: Permission for Iris Capital redevelop the former David Jones building on Hunter Street has been approved by the Joint Regional Planning Panel.
The $700 million redevelopment will see the building be converted into a 106-room QT hotel, featuring a rooftop bar as well as a signature QT dining concept.
Event Hospitality Group will operate the hotel.
The hotel forms part of Iris Capital’s East End Project – a mixed-use development that will feature three residential buildings of 212 luxury apartments as well as retail and commercial space.
Reported in The Hotel Conversation, Iris Capital CEO, Sam Arnaout, said: “This is the first premium hotel for the region and will hit the spot for all Novocastrians and tourists alike. The hotel will offer cool bars and restaurants, including the city’s first rooftop bar with uninterrupted views over the working harbour.
