Italy: Proprietor Guido Coffa has opened the six-room Monaci delle Terre Nere, set on an organic farm overlooking the Mediterranean.
Coffa has spent five years transforming the derelict villa in to a property that features an intriguing mix of traditional and contemporary.
An old wine press and fresco paintings contrast with paintings by British-Brazilian artist Olivier Mourao, modern furnishings by Flos and B&B Italia, alongside Coffa’s personal collection of antiques.
Coffa arranges tours of local vineyards and nearby Mount Etna and will book local restaurants for guests.
The farm on which the hotel is located produces more than 70 different types of fruit, many of which are turned into home-made jams or freshly squeezed juices for breakfast.
