The Grange Hotel reopens after refurbishment

UK: The Grange Hotel in York has reopened following an extensive renovation.

The work saw the addition of four premier ground floor rooms and the development of the historic cellars into a 2 AA Rosette restaurant.

The Grange Hotel is set in a Grade II listed building in the residential area of Bootham, within easy walking distance from the city centre of York. Featuring 41 individually-designed en suite rooms set among Regency style décor, the hotel contains antique paintings, sash windows, rare racing memorabilia and a sweeping staircase.

Rooms have been individually designed by the hotel’s co-owner Vivien Cassel, and range from classic country house bedrooms featuring four-poster beds with matching floral wallpaper and soft furnishings; to “cool townhouse contemporary rooms with colourful velvet sofas and armchairs”. Bathrooms are fully stocked with toiletries from the White Company and feature underfloor heating.

Guests can enjoy fine dining at the hotel’s 2 AA Restaurant, The Ivy Brasserie, situated in the hotel’s original brick vaulted cellars. Chef Will Nicol uses local Yorkshire produce to serve classic food with a French influence. G&T enthusiasts can also partake in the restaurant’s gin masterclass led by local gin experts Still & Heart, where they will be guided through a number of different gins, garnishes and mixers.

The hotel has been shortlisted for the 2019 York Design Awards, which celebrate the heritage of fine buildings in the city.
