US: Construction on Ambiente, North America’s first landscape hotel, is underway in Sedona, Arizona.
Landscape hotels are built with respect for the environment, focusing on sustainable methods and organic, modern architecture to complement the surrounding area.
Two Sister Bosses will develop, own and manage the three-acre site, and ASUL Architects will construct 40 cube-shaped, luxury guest Atriums.
The accommodation will be built over the course of 15 months, each Atrium encased in dark-bronze glass and elevated above the ground.
Krizan Associates, Inc., the landscape architect, will be working to preserve the vegetated forest and to save every native tree possible in the building process. Krizan’s team has also discovered a way to reactive the site’s waterways to create a natural eco-system with continuously running water.
Inside the Atriums, a double-sided fireplace will sit above the platform bed and will be visible on the other side of the wall above the bathtub. Other in-room features include retractable TV’s, heated flooring, mood lighting, a double shower, a complimentary mini-bar that is restocked daily.
Fifteen of the Atriums will include private rooftop decks with a daybed, a seating area for dining and lounging, and a small gas fire pit.
A lagoon-inspired pool and spa will sit at the centre of the site, connected to an open-air poolside lounge that will house a bar and rooftop sun deck. The bar will feature indoor and outdoor TV’s and a catering kitchen.
A two-storey glass and metal lobby will serve as the guest check-in area, complete with a lounge, meeting rooms and offices. As cars are not permitted on-site, an elevator will take guests to the ground floor where they will be shuttled via a small electric-powered car to their Atrium.
Ambiente: a Landscape Hotel, Sedona, is scheduled to open December 2020.
