$36 million boutique hotel planned for Franklin, Tennessee

US: Developer Harpeth Associates has chosen Senate Hospitality Group as their partner to build a 120-room hotel as part of its Harpeth Square project.

Harpath has spent several years purchasing properties between First and Second avenues in downtown Franklin with a view to creating an $80 million mixed-use development. As part of the project, seven buildings will be demolished to make way for Harpeth Square’s hotel, retail and up to 150,000 square feet of living space.

Senate was chosen from a list of national developers for its “depth and breadth of hotel development experience”. The company was founded in 2002 by hoteliers Dave Jones and Glenn Malone, and has developed diverse property types including upscale full-service and select service brands, as well as work with national brands.

Malone said: “Dave and I know that a beautiful, culturally fitting boutique hotel is a needed asset in Downtown Franklin. We’re pleased this first step in the development process is underway and our company is eager to offer unforgettable, high-quality accommodations to the visitors to this area.”

Next week, Harpeth will present concept plans to a meeting of city aldermen and planning commissioners. Last month, it unveiled the first concept drawings which detailed the four-storey hotel. The company said: “Historic Downtown Franklin is ‘Tennessee’s Best Small Town’ and a ‘Great American Main Street.’ Accolades like this attract visitors from near and far. After the new boutique hotel opens, those visitors will have an overnight option that is consistent with the charm and appeal that attracted them to Franklin in the first place.”

If the scheme is granted planning approval, work could begin next year with the hotel opening by 2016.
