Panama: Ace Hotels is developing a 50-room upscale property in the Casco Viejo neighbourhood of Panama City.
Called the American Trade Hotel, the project is reportedly the first in a series of hotel openings from Atelier Ace.
Ace’s co-founder Alex Calderwood said: “Casco reminds me of old Havana. You have these beautiful 16th-, 17th- and 18th- century buildings -some restored, some not- and there’s also this excitement there.”
The property will be developed by Panama-based company Conservatorio and will reportedly “reflect the area’s local history and culture”. It will incorporate two buildings in Casco Viejo, including the original American Trade department store, which was built in 1917.
Due to open in November, the hotel will feature a jazz bar, a restaurant and a rooftop pool.
Ace Hotels, which started in Portland, Oregon, has five properties in the US, and is opening in London next month.
