US: LA-based hospitality developer and operator sbe has announced the official launch of its first NYC hotel, The Redbury New York.
The company held an opening party, hosted by CEO Sam Nazarian, The Redbury creative director Matthew Rolston, and Union Square Hospitality’s Danny Meyer, which was attended by more than 1,000 attendees.
The hotel marks the third property from The Redbury brand, in collaboration with creative director, photographer and director Matthew Rolston. Since its phase one transformation in April 2016 to The Rebury New York, the hotel has undergone extensive design renovations.
Located on 29 East 29th Street in Manhattan’s NoMad district, The Redbury New York features 265 guest rooms, 7,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, Ciel Spa bath amenities, Wi-Fi, and in-room dining from on-site restaurant Marta – by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group.
The hotel originally opened in 1903 as the Martha Washington Hotel and was the first hotel in New York to provide housing for professional women. It continued to cater exclusively to women up until 1998. In 2012, the building was officially marked as a landmark site for its architectural and historical significance and is recognised today by Historic Hotels of America.
sbe made the headlines when it acquired Morgans Hotel Group in May.
