Shipping container hotel craze reaches Belgium

Belgium: Sleeping Around, a pop-up hotel made from Chinese shipping containers is entertaining guests around the country.

The mobile rooms travel around in a cluster of six containers – four converted in to rooms/sleeping areas, one in to a breakfast/lounge area and another used as a sauna.

It is currently sited in front of a pier in Antwerp, but is looking for suggestions for its next port of call. Potential sites need to be at least 400 square metros, have a great view, drinking water and electricity, and be accessible to the large trucks that transport the containers.

Sleeping Around claims that only environmentally friendly materials were used to build the pop-up hotel. It charges €149 per night to stay in the containers.

Shipping containers are increasingly used as a basis for hotel construction – the last year has seen similar projects in China and the US.
