US: The former Mayfair Hotel in St Louis will reopen as the Magnolia after a major renovation.

The 18-storey, 182-room property, on 8th Street, first opened in 1924 and has played host to many famous guests, including Harry S. Truman, Lyndon Johnson and Cary Grant.

The property was bought by Stout Street in December 2013, and will join its Magnolia group of properties, which includes hotels in Denver, Houston, Dallas and Omaha. It is preserving as much of the original architecture as possible, including the stained glass windows, chandeliers and crown moulding.

Stout Street CEO Leigh Hitz said: “We will also bring back the wonderful treat of chocolate on your bed that was actually started here at the Mayfair by Cary Grant, so the Cary Grant suite upstairs is coming back to life. It will have a lot of photographs of Cary Grant entertaining different ladies.”
