UK: A Guinness World Record title will be attempted this December 3rd to simultaneously turn on as many Christmas trees in different hospitality locations across the UK.
In conjunction with Hospitality Action – a support service to all those who work within the industry – The Great Big Christmas Turn On will help to raise thousands of pounds for the charity.
The aim is to organise a total of more than 1000 Christmas trees, spread over different hospitality venues in the country, to simultaneously light up.
Jason Atherton, celebrity chef and patron of Hospitality Action, has agreed to flick the master switch from New York via a live feed to be featured on TV. More details on the media partner will follow, with the likely timing to be between 5:00 and 7:30 pm on December 3rd 2019.
Trees will be located in hotel receptions, hospital common-rooms, pubs and gardens – anywhere that guests and colleagues can gather to watch the live turn-on.
A donation of £99 is required for participation, all of which will be passed directly to Hospitality Action. The sign-up form is available here.
Participating venues will receive a unique smart plug, powered by VIVID Hospitality Solutions, along with marketing information and a commemorative certificate following the event.
Properties that have already pledged to take part include The Beaumont Hotel, Bath Spa Hotel, Grantley Hall, and Whatley Manor to name a few, including several hotel chains such as Bespoke Hotels, Preferred Hotels & Resorts, Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts, and more.
The Caterer and Guinness World Records are supporting partners of the nation-wide event.
The Great Big Christmas Turn On is an opportunity for the hospitality sector to not only establish a unique world record, but more importantly to raise awareness of the important work that Hospitality Action has achieved in its 180 year history.
