UK hospitality marketing company to open its own hotel

Portugal: A UK marketing agency has started construction of its own 10-bedroom hotel on Portugal’s Silver Coast.

Pic PR – the agency behind and – is developing, building, marketing and operating the property, which it will also expand eventually to feature 17 rooms. The initial works, including the construction of a borehole, is underway.

The company bought a site near Nazaré last year, and its three-year project is looking to tap into Portugal’s rocketing popularity with tourists.

When the project was announced, David Barrett, managing of Pic PR, said: “We’ve been living and breathing hotels for the past seven years, interacting daily with hotel owners, GMs and senior hoteliers, so are well versed in the trials and tribulations – at least in part. “It’s been a vision of ours for a number of years – so we’ve been gleaning insight wherever we can, and are now ready to take the plunge. With three years to go until our tenth anniversary, our plans are to open the hotel to mark the occasion. All being well, and this not being a massive mistake where we sink without trace, we hope to create a thriving hospitality establishment from scratch. Unsurprisingly, the running of the hotel itself won’t be thrust upon the experienced marketers within our team – we’ll be calling on the skills of other professionals, a GM, housekeeping, waiting staff and more, as the project progresses. However, Pic PR will be completely managing the communications campaign, like we do for all our hospitality clients.”

This week he added: “While the borehole might seem like a relatively minor step – it’s essentially the first physical one, so in that regard it’s a major one for us. With the builders now able to access sufficient water, construction can begin in earnest.”

“Since the initial announcement we’ve now expanded on our aspirations, adding three rooms to the hotel’s design to increase guest capacity. Once the main building is constructed, we then have plans to include lodges in the grounds, eventually offering 17 bedrooms in total.”

The hotel will open in early 2022, coinciding with the agency’s 10-year anniversary.
