UK: Hospitality group Truffle has acquired the four-star hotel Mere Court, in Cheshire.

The country house hotel and wedding venue is located near Knutsford and was purchased for the guide price of £4 million.

Truffle Hotels was incorporated in November 2022 and has its registered office within Mere Court Hotel on Warrington Road.

Truffle took over the venue from Edgeman Ltd, a north east-based group that has operated the property since 2004.

The company said it plans to invest significantly in the business, aiming to boost its leisure offerings and bring out the hotel’s full potential.

Peter Heywood, director of Truffle Hotels said: “The Mere Court is a well-established country house hotel in an ideal location. Plans for the future should ensure it becomes a first-class venue for both business and leisure.”

The Cheshire-based law firm SAS Daniels advised Truffle Hotels on the acquisition.

Steven Percy, partner and head of commercial property, and Paul Tyrer, partner in the corporate team, worked together to finalise the multimillion-pound deal.

Percy said: “Our team worked tremendously hard to complete this important acquisition. We look forward to seeing the new owner’s exciting plans for the Mere Court Hotel brought to life in the coming months.”

Set within seven acres of landscaped grounds, Mere Court Hotel has undergone extensive refurbishments and features an AA Rosette restaurant.
