Blake Hotel Group has been given planning consent for a 10-storey boutique hotel on Corsham Street in Shoreditch.

The company, which operates Blakes Hotel in Kensington – one of the capital’s first and most famous boutique hotels – as well as a property in Amsterdam, appointed local architects Kyson to design the property. It will be built near Old Street roundabout on the site of Satellite House, a red brick 1980s office building.

Work is due to start on site early next year and to complete towards the end of 2018

A statement from Blakes says: “We are proposing to create an 87 room hotel, which reflects the industrial heritage of the area, using steel framed windows and handmade brickwork to emulate the Victorian warehouses that once defined this part of London. Blakes Hotel in Kensington is defined by its unique and luxurious style, as well as the impeccable levels of service. These are characteristics that we would hope to emulate as part of this proposal. However, we are not proposing to recreate that hotel. Blakes Shoreditch will be a clean, calm and unique design in itself, to fit into the forward thinking, young, and vibrant character of this area of London. A small business hub will be provided on the ground floor, bringing trade and investment to the area. The proposals would create around 100 new jobs, most of which would go to local Hackney residents and school leavers.”
