UK: Located on the Devon coast on its own private tidal island, Burgh Island Hotel is to reopen from 7 July in line with government recommendations.
The hotel is implementing strict health and safety procedures to minimise the risk of contamination. It has a bookings-only policy, including pre-arrival questionnaires, and will provide social distancing guidelines throughout the property and island.
Its three F&B outlets will also comply with new standards. Dining hours will be extended, and the breakfast buffet suspended and substituted for an a la carte menu. The island’s pub, The Pilchard Inn, will be offering takeaway service and two dinner sittings for visitors.
Refurbishment of staff accommodation includes the conversion of garages into leisure areas, with plans to build eco-lodges for the team.
The hotel itself comprises 25 bedrooms and suites, as well as a private Beach House where Agatha Christie is said to have written two novels.
From November, the hotel will host its Christie inspired murder mystery weekends, following the release of the latest movie based on one of the author’s crime thrillers this autumn.
Other activities range from a day with an island artist, fly fishing, and conservation shark fishing along the coastline.
Following its refurbishment last year, the hotel plans to further expand its guest services and facilities, such as enhancing the range of spa services and activities available.
Giles Fuchs, owner of Burgh Island Hotel, said: “I’m delighted to be able to announce that Burgh Island Hotel will be opening on July 7. Given its location the hotel is an ideal spot for a staycation, which is how most people will enjoy their holidays this year. Guests will be able to enjoy excellent dining with food sourced locally and sustainably, luxury spa services, as well as a full range of outdoor activities.
“With safety an absolute priority, we have implemented health and safety measures across the hotel and the grounds, to ensure the wellbeing of both our staff and guests, without compromising the unique, luxury experience the hotel provides,” he added.
