US: Canopy, a boutique brand by Hilton, has opened its first hotel in the American southwest.
The property, announced earlier this year, was opened to the public on 16 June, offering a full service hotel with a boutique hotel reflecting a vibrant, growing city.
Owned and developed by Driftwood Capital, Canopy by Hilton Tempe Downtown is a 198 room property boasting luxurious rooms and around 5000 feet of flexible working and living space. It offers a unique locals-focused package as well, attempting to attract those interested in a staycation in mind.
Alan Klein, general manager for the new property, said: “We hope to become a vibrant gathering space that embodies the innovation present in the exciting evolution of downtown Tempe. As part of the Hilton brand portfolio, we’ll be implementing Hilton CleanStay procedures, a new industry-defining standard of cleanliness and disinfection, created in partnership with Lysol, so our guests can feel reassured that an even cleaner and safer stay is waiting for them when we open our doors.”
The hotel also features a pair of distinct dining venues, Alter Ego and Alibi, both offering distinct takes on Southwestern cuisine. The two will be scaled back during the initial opening phase, as well as the hotel’s cabanas and pool facilities, in order to comply with distancing rules.
Scottsdale based Allen + Philip led the design, hoping to mimic an urban culture, in collaboration with local artist Emily Brakefield. The design incorporates many natural elements and desert inspired colours.

Canopy has been expanding in 2020, in spite of the global pandemic. 4C Hotel Group closed a £65 million deal this year in order to secure the UK’s first Canopy Hotel in London.
