Spain: Famous Spanish restaurant El Celler de Can Roca has announced it is launching a luxury boutique hotel.
Uniquely, the Hotel Casa Cacao is connected directly to a secondary business, a luxury chocolate factory.
The restaurant has twice been named “Best Restaurant in the World,” by the world’s 50 best, and has been noted for its impact on the development of modern Spanish gastronomy. The chocolatier and hotel is a passion project of co-founder Jordi Roca, who had previously been profiled by Netflix’s Chef’s Table series.
The hotel, a 15 key luxury boutique will be managed by Jordi Roca’s wife, Anna Payet, a 26-year hospitality veteran. The hotel shares the reception floor with the chocolate factory and has been fashioned to mimic the colours and textures of cacao beans in maturation and the aesthetic of the nearby city of Girona.
It emphasises the height of luxury, with local artisan-made furnishings and beds outfitted with high luxury sheets and local comforts. Most prominent is the breakfast service, cooked by Roca, and served on the rooftop terrace.
Payet said to Global Traveller: “The rooftop terrace is exclusive to hotel guests. Here, you can have a leisurely breakfast of locally crafted produce, while enjoying the panorama of the old city of Girona.”
Guests also get exclusive access to the high quality chocolate products, including beauty products and pastries, from the next-door boutique chocolate store.
Unique hotels are finding development during this global downturn. A set of three Edinburgh nightclubs are to be redeveloped into a boutique hotel, and a Greece’s first fully vegan hotel is opening in this upcoming summer.
