Devonshire Club ceases trading

UK: The London-based private members club has issued a statement confirming the closure of its premises, effective from 17 March 2020.

Last week, it was reported that the Devonshire Club had filed noticed of its intention to appoint an administrator.

A buyer of the business withdrew interest due to the economic uncertainty and growing impact of the coronavirus.

The Board of Devonshire Club also turned to the landlord for support, seeking to raise funds through other avenues but without success.

“As a result of the government’s recent advice regarding social distancing, combined with extremely low volumes of bookings, the Board made the decision that the Club should close with effect from 17 March 2020,” read a statement issued today.

Thomas Russel and Sandra Mundy of James Cowper Kreston have been appointed as joint administrators.
