Hong Kong: Fashion designer Vivienne Tam has created a suite at Hotel Icon.

Tam used her New York apartment as inspiration for the minimalist suite, which has views of Hong Kong harbour.

Features of the room include a curvaceous red sofa and a Japanese cherrywood table. A portrait of “Opera Girl”, a character Tam created for her 2011 accessories line, made of Swarovski Elements, hangs in the bedroom.

“You feel at home, at ease,” the designer said of the room. “It’s very similar (to my apartment): the furniture, the wood, the marble bathroom. I have concrete columns in New York, which they don’t have here, but there’s the same open window space and the colours are also the same.”

The hotel is owned by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where Tam graduated.
