US: Located in downtown Waterville, inland Maine, Lockwood Hotel has opened marking one of the first new boutique properties to open in the area in over a century.
Developed by Colby College and managed by Charlestowne Hotels, the property offers 53 hotel rooms and suites, a restaurant and private dining room, lobby bar and lounge with outdoor patio and fire pits, as well as meeting and event space.
The hotel features artwork curated by the Colby College Museum of Art throughout. The college also hosts a permanent collection of work from artists including Alex Katz, Maya Linn, Georgia O’Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, Richard Serra and James McNeill Whistler, amongst others.
Colby College has been investing in Waterville to support the area’s resurgence, with total investment from public and private sources now close to $200 million. Brian Clark, vice president of planning at Colby College, said: “Lockwood Hotel is central to ensuring Waterville is a vibrant and dynamic city where people want to live, work, and visit. The hotel and its great restaurant, Front & Main, serve both as a gathering place for the community and as a destination that brings visitors into the heart of downtown.”
Front & Main, led by executive chef Jesse Souza, sources local ingredients from farms and waters throughout Maine. The menu will offer brunch, lunch and dinner with dishes changing seasonally. Over in the bar, director of food and beverage John Philipps-Sandy is creating the cocktail and drinks menu, also focussing on local suppliers.
Jordan Rowan, general manager of Lockwood Hotel, said: “Lockwood Hotel is a testament to everything Waterville and central Maine have to offer, and we are eager to introduce the city to a new audience of discerning travellers. Waterville’s central location makes Lockwood Hotel the ideal gateway for experiencing the best of Maine – from the nearby hiking trails and renowned Colby College Museum of Art to Acadia National Park, Sugarloaf Ski Area, the mid-coast, and Portland.”
Charlestowne Hotels manages a portfolio of over 50 hotels along with several food and beverage outlets including coffee shops and delis to rooftop bars and restaurants.
