London’s first boutique hotel celebrates anniversary

UK: South Kensington’s Blakes Hotel is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month

South Kensington’s Blakes Hotel, London’s “first boutique hotel” is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month.

To celebrate the anniversary, the hotel is offering 40 rooms for the reduced rate of £40 per night, a discount of 84 per cent.

The celebrated Blakes Hotel in South Kensington was styled by British designer Anouska Hempel. It first opened in 1978 as The Townhouse in South Kensington. It was one of the first boutique, or “couture”, hotels worldwide.

The hotel is renowned for its decadent interiors. Inspirations for the bedroom décor includes Provençal and Asian Colonial influences. The restaurant reflects Art Deco styling, designed by Hempel to resemble an “old-fashioned steamer sailing up the Bosphorus”.

The celebratory offer starts on January 8 2018 and will last until the end of the month. Bookings are available on a first come, first served basis.
