US: Independent luxury boutique hotel OTIS Harbor Springs is scheduled to open 31 May 2024, housed in the former Birchwood Inn in Harbor Springs, Michigan.
OTIS Harbor Springs marks the debut project for owners Israel Hernandez and Ty Humpert. The duo led the renovation of the former Birchwood Inn with support from Daniel Caudill, former creative director of Shinola. Kenneth Blasingame was of counsel in the design of the hotel’s lobby and the lounge.
The property features 31 guest rooms, many with private patio spaces overlooking the central courtyard. Room sizes range from studio to family suites and are spread across three connected buildings.
Communal areas include a cocktail lounge, a lobby cafe, a courtyard with stone fire puts and bocce ball, and an additional outdoor seating area called The Grove – also available for private events. Planned for July, a yoga platform will be placed along the back edges of the property.
The hotel’s on-site shop Birchwood General will offer a selection of locally made goods, including ceramics, art, curated books, and vintage-ware sourced by Humpert.
“We’ve created this experience just as much for locals as for our out-of-town guests,” said Hernandez. “This is a very special place that has been part of the community for many decades, and we are honoured to bring back this Northern Michigan mainstay for future generations.”
