Second Radisson Collection hotel opens in Spain

NKO restaurant

Spain: The Radisson Collection Hotel, Gran Vía Bilbao, marks the second luxury lifestyle property in Spain from Radisson Hotel Group.

Gran Vía Bilbao follows the opening of the Radisson Collection Hotel, Magdalena Plaza Sevilla last year. The latest property is located in the former headquarters of Banco Hispano Americano, built in 1945.

The hotel has 137 rooms over six floors, including two rooftop suites with private terraces and a jacuzzi. A fitness and spa area, featuring indoor pool and yoga studio, is expected to open in the coming months.

Interiors have been brought to life by dAAr Arquitectura and features Art Deco-inspired design.

NKO, a rooftop restaurant led by Michelin star chef Eneko Atxa, brings together Basque and Japanese cuisine. The restaurant has a terrace with vertical gardens, colorful umbrellas, and a geometric black and white marble floor. This is the third collaboration between Radisson Hotel Group and Atxa, with a fourth coming soon in Madrid.

Tom Flanagan Karttunen, area SVP of northern and western Europe at Radisson Hotel Group, said: “It’s a great pleasure to open the second Radisson Collection hotel in Spain and bring the brand to Bilbao. One of the most outstanding elements of this new hotel is its location in the heart of the city on one of the most prominent avenues, Gran Vía.

“The hotel features stylish and attention-to-detail design, with an exceptional rooftop terrace that is one of the best in Bilbao. We are honoured to partner with local five-time Michelin star chef Eneko Atxa to offer top-class gastronomy at our NKO restaurant.”

Radisson Collection Hotel, Gran Vía Bilbao has received an LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum green building certification. It has consumed 47 per cent less energy and 40 per cent less water than similar hotels.

The hotel has also created a ‘Walkable Project site’ that promotes walking, cycling and other non-motorised activities in the area.

Radisson Hotel Group’s goal for the Spanish market is to open more than 20 hotels in the next five years. The group will soon open the first Radisson RED lifestyle property in Madrid later this year.
