Italy: Italian hotel group The ROMEO Collection will open its second project in Rome in October 2023, designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid.

Housed in a historic palazzo dating back to the late 16th century, the 74-room ROMEO Roma will feature a restaurant, Neapolitan-inspired bistro, an open-air courtyard with indoor and outdoor pools, a rooftop lounge and bar, an international art collection and a wellness centre by Sisley Paris.

The hotel is said to be one of Hadid’s last projects. Italian local marbles are to be used in the design, and five of the guest suites will feature restored frescos.

Chef Alain Ducasse will oversee the main dining venue II Ristorante. The bistro Napoletano will serve a Mediterranean-inspired menu.

The 13,000 square foot wellness centre will be centred around La Spa Sisley Paris, which will offer phyto-aromatic treatments from the brand as well as a studio and fitness centre with Technogym equipment.

An on-site art collection is a signature feature of ROMEO hotels. Ancient and contemporary work is set to be on display throughout ROMEO Roma, ranging from archaeological ruins in the courtyard to modern, site-specific installations.

“The basis of the ROMEO Collection is built on creating spaces that masterfully integrate worldly art collections, contemporary design and breathtaking architecture,” said Alfredo Romeo, president and CEO of The ROMEO Collection. “Once we came upon the noble Serroberti-Capponi family’s former 16th-century palazzo, we knew this was the perfect space to house the collection’s next project.

“The history naturally built into the palazzo and the city of Rome itself became the perfect canvas for Zaha Hadid to create a unique intersection of the past and present. We look forward to welcoming guests at ROMEO Roma, and sharing our uniquely curated experience of beauty tied together with the notable style that the brand is known for.”
