UK: Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo and Portuguese hotel group Pestana have submitted plans for a luxury 151-bed hotel overlooking Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens.
Pestana CR7 Manchester is due to open in 2023, marking the seventh property under the brand partnership. The name is taken from Ronaldo’s initials and shirt number.
The proposals involve the redevelopment of two buildings, replaced by an 11-storey tower. The property would feature a bar and a cafe, a basement gym and rooftop bar.
Retail and leisure units are also planned at street level, along with an outdoor seating area.
Writing on its website Pestana said: “It couldn’t be more appropriate – after all, this is the city where Cristiano Ronaldo started his international career in Man United back in 2003 and where he first used number 7. Besides football, Manchester is known by the music scene, the birthplace of the industrial revolution and one of the largest Chinese communities in Europe.”
The project is slated to cost £27 million and will be located at 69-75 Piccadilly, subject to approval.
Other hotels in the CR7 brand include sites in Madeira and Lisbon, with more openings expected in New York, Madrid, Marrakech and Paris.
Pestana’s wider portfolio of hotels includes sites in Berlin, Barcelona and Caracas, as well as the four-star Chelsea Bridge Hotel and Spa in London.
