Thompson Hotels launches in Madrid

Spain: Hyatt has opened the debut Spanish property for its Thompson brand in Madrid.

The 175-room hotel is housed in two historic buildings on Calle De La Montera. Madrid-based López y Tena, LYTA Interior Design & Arquitecture Studio oversaw the interiors including the two-storey penthouse.

As part of the brand’s Culture Lives Here campaign – which connects guests with local talent across music, art, fashion, design and F&B – Thompson Madrid will showcase three notable individuals.

First, artist Nicolás Villamizar is creating exclusive pieces for the hotel as well as a limited-edition map given to guests at check in. Second, chef Nino Redruello will lead the hotel’s three dining venues including the all-day bakery and bistro The Omar, the rooftop bar and pool, as well as speakeasy bar Hijos de Tomás. Third, couture brand OTEYZA will display hand-made items throughout the property.

Other amenities at the hotel include six event spaces, a 24-hour gym, an open-air courtyard, hilltop bar and day club, as well as the opportunity for guests to participate in exclusive experiences such as tours, exhibitions and concerts.

Carlos Erburu Zazpe, general manager of Thompson Madrid, said: “We are excited to welcome guests to Thompson Madrid and invite them to immerse themselves into the culture of the city, which can be found inside and outside the walls of the hotel. Inspired by Madrid’s nearby “kilometre Zero,” which marks the spot all distances in Spain are measured from, all journeys start in Madrid and all authentic Madrilenian experiences for our guests begin in Thompson Madrid.”

Thompson Madrid marks the third Hyatt-branded hotel in the city joining Hyatt Centric Gran Via Madrid and Hyatt Regency Hesperia Madrid.

The Thompson brand will soon come to Vienna, with a hotel slated to open in 2024.
