Thornbury Castle completes refurbishment

Thornbury Castle

UK: Thornbury Castle in Bristol, the only Tudor castle in the UK which operates as a hotel and restaurant, has re-opened its doors following a multi-million pound refurbishment.

The castle’s 26 bedrooms and suites have been restored, with 15 of the rooms featuring four-poster beds and period detailing. Each of the six deluxe suites are individually designed.

Heading up the F&B offering is executive chef Carl Cleghorn. He has worked alongside several Michelin star chefs and sources ingredients from the hotel’s kitchen and herb garden. Menus include breakfast, lunch, an all-day offer, afternoon tea and a la carte dinner.

Thornbury Castle now features a treatment room in the property’s south wing, offering massages and facials.

Other activities include bespoke historical tours, a walking garden tour, axe throwing, sword skills, archery, falconry, croquet, and more.

In November last year, Thornbury Castle became a member of Relais & Châteaux. The collection features more than 580 hotels and restaurants spanning England, Ireland, Denmark, Switzerland, Canada and France.

Simone Arcucci, general manager of Thornbury Castle, said: We are thrilled that Thornbury Castle has been invited to become a member of Relais & Châteaux and we very much look forward to introducing the castle to their discerning guests.

“Thornbury Castle is the only Tudor castle in the UK which operates as a hotel and restaurant and is a truly unique place to stay. Built in 1511 during the reign of Henry VIII, it was one of the grandest buildings of its time in England and has been the home of kings, queens and dukes over the centuries. Following a multi-million pound refurbishment, the décor artfully reflects the Tudor style in which royalty and aristocracy would have socialised, feasted and relaxed in, allowing our guests to experience Tudor opulence in total luxury.”
