Scotland: A four-star hotel, lodge style cabins, museum and retail space forms part of the development plans proposed by Morris Leslie for a site at West Kinfauns in Perthshire.
A Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) has been submitted to Perth and Kinross Council, noting the intent of Morris Leslie to develop the site following a minimum 12-week period of consultation.
The completed development will accommodate up to 80,000 visitors in Perth and Kinross annually, and increase local employment opportunities. It has been estimated that once operational, it will support 170 direct on-site jobs in hospitality, retail and leisure.
The four-star hotel will seek to accommodate an internationally recognised brand. It will feature 120-150 rooms across four storeys, and can cater to longer stays with potential for spa style facilities.
The cabins will be provided for longer stays for larger groups (five days plus).
A museum will focus on transport and vehicles over the last century. It will showcase how vehicles have evolved and the impact of Scots on the sector, including David Buick, William Davidson, and Preston Watson.
Retail space will be provided at a scale that complements the proposed hotel, museum and lodges.
Morris Leslie, chairman of Morris Leslie Ltd said: “This exciting £33.8 million development provides the perfect opportunity to maximise the potential of the location and draw tourism to the area on a local and national basis.
“Well-connected to the surrounding road network, including the A90, this premium destination will provide a gateway to Perth, to the surrounding area and beyond. The proposed scheme is of a scale that can support additional development and is ideally placed in terms of transport connection. It is also in a beautiful location with wonderful views.”
Caroline Warburton, VisitScotland regional leadership director, said: “This is an incredibly appealing prospect for Perthshire and for Scotland as a whole, drawing tourists to the marvellous attractions in the area and creating much-needed jobs.
“The delivery of another four-star hotel is particularly exciting. A leisure-led development such as this has the potential to support and bolster the leisure-stay market in Perth, acting as a hub for longer stay tourism as well as a base for day trips. We look forward to following these proposals.”
A digital consultation will be held on Tuesday 16th March between 3-7pm GMT. The public can ask questions about the development to the consultants and provide views on the proposals. Access to the event can be found here.
