UK: Following a 2019 survey by Taxi2Airport, the Independent Hotel Show has conducted research on consumer’s attitudes to environmental consciousness in hotels.
The report, in partnership with Citron, supports the Independent Hotel Show’s live installation, The Conscious Bedroom, which looks at what constitutes a consciously designed hotel guest room.
Key takeaways from the report show:
- 71% admit to never using nor opening a minibar, which urges the re-evaluation for its need.
- Almost 75% value local produce in hotels, with 72% agreeing that it would be preferable.
- 78% would like to see up-cycled furniture in their hotel room.
- 88% of respondents would be willing to sleep under the same bedsheets for the duration of their stay.
- 73% reported that a hotel does not appear budget when using refillable bottles for its in-room toiletries.
The report is based on the opinions of 2,000 travellers, of which three-quarters are UK based, over half female, and the majority of respondents aged between 26 and 66 years old.

This year, The Conscious Bedroom will be designed by Harris & Harris, and will give hoteliers a view of how to balance guest experience with sustainable choices.
