AUS: Following the opening of Mondrian Seoul Itaewon last month, Accor is looking at Australia as among the next countries to be home to a Mondrian hotel.
Accor and sbe have embarked on a rapid growth strategy to reach 15 Mondrian properties globally by 2022.
The recent opening in South Korea marks the fifth hotel in the Mondrian portfolio. It features 296 rooms and suites and offers five restaurant and bar options.
Michael Issenberg, Accor Asia Pacific chairman and CEO, has announced that the brand will debut in Australia, with further details on its location to follow soon.
Mondrian originally formed part of the sbe Entertainment Group. Accor acquired 50 per cent of sbe in late 2018.
Other upcoming locations for Mondrian include Bordeaux in 2021, as well as Cannes, the Dominican Republic and Singapore.
Speaking about the Seoul opening, Issenberg said: “We are proud to introduce the first Mondrian in the Asia Pacific together with our partner sbe. The Mondrian brand captivates the energy of Seoul with its creativity, revolutionary design and exciting bars and restaurants. Seoul is one of Asia’s most dynamic cities and is renowned for its colourful K-pop scene and fashion-forward vision while remaining deeply rooted in culture and tradition. The opening of Mondrian Seoul Itaewon will provide a complete lifestyle hotel experience in the heart of Seoul’s most vibrant district.”
