GHM announces openings in Qatar and Egypt

The Chedi Katara Hotel & Resort, Doha, Qatar

UAE/Africa: In celebration of its 30th anniversary, General Hotel Management (GHM) will unveil two properties under the The Chedi brand and at least five more projects in the pipeline.

Next year, The Chedi Katara Hotel & Resort in Doha (Qatar) and The Chedi El Gouna, Red Sea (Egypt) are set to open.

The former has been developed in partnership with Triple A, a Qatari real estate consortium, and Katara Cultural Village – a 100-hectare district with theatres, galleries, concert halls, restaurants, shops and more.

The Chedi Katara Hotel & Resort will comprise 59 rooms and suites along with 32 chalets and villas. It will also feature a spa and fitness area as well as a lobby lounge with 180-degree views of the sea.

Over in Egypt, The Chedi El Gouna will reflag an existing 86-key resort. The project marks the third collaboration with GHM and Orascom Hotels Management, the first dating back to 2013 when The Chedi Andermatt opened.

The Chedi resort will join 18 other hotels in El Gouna, ranging from three to five stars.

“Over the last three decades, GHM has built a legacy of hospitality excellence with a distinctive Asian identity. Through our operating experience in uncommon destinations, we have acquired valuable insights, local knowledge and cultural sensitivities that appeal to discerning luxury travellers,” said Tommy Lai, chief executive officer of GHM. “Our landmark hotels and resorts embrace a strong sense of native identity and genuine way of life in every destination to deliver truly transformative travel experiences unlike any other. We look forward to creating more remarkable experiences in desirable destinations for the new era of travel. ”

GHM currently has seven project under development. The group will soon launch a new brand, The Serai, taking its total number of brands in the portfolio up to three.
