Egypt: The Chedi El Gouna, Red Sea, Egypt, marks the third collaboration between GHM and Switzerland-based Orascom Hotels Management.

The hotel is to be developed on the foundation of an existing 86-key beachfront property.

GHM and Orascom originally came together for The Chedi Andermatt in Switzerland, which opened in 2013. In 2017, the hotel’s Japanese restaurant was awarded its first Michelin star.

The Chedi Luštica Bay on the coast of Montenegro launched in 2016.

GHM CEO, Tommy Lai, said: “When you’ve built the kind of momentum we have in Andermatt and Montenegro, it was only a matter of time before a third effort was going to have to come off the ground. Given Orascom’s deep roots in Egypt and in El Gouna, a place on the Red Sea was all but inevitable.”

El Gouna is currently home to some 18 hotels, ranging from three to five stars, and two golf courses. It is largely visited for watersports, beaches and boating.

Jens Freise, CCO of Orascom Hotels Management, said: “We are excited about our partnership with GHM. We are confident that The Chedi El Gouna will further enhance the town’s gorgeous spirit with its intuitive luxury experience.”

There are several other Chedi properties under development by GHM, including The Chedi Mumbai, India (2022); The Chedi Katara Hotel & Resort, Doha (2022); and The Chedi Aquarius Koh Chang, Thailand (2023).
