US: The Hotel Paradox, a 170-room property in Santa Cruz is set to open next week after an extensive refurbishment.

The Ocean Street property, which opens on August 15, takes its design cues from Northern California’s surf culture. It has been designed by San Francisco-based Orlando Diaz-Azcuy Design Associates, and will be operated by BPR Properties.

The former University Inn & Conference Center now features a new indoor-outdoor bar, lounge and restaurant, as well as a remodeled pool and new fitness centre. Quirky touches include a check-in desk crafted from a fallen eucalyptus tree, custom headboards made out of reclaimed snow fences and a ‘pillow butler’.
