Japan: IHG and developer Tsukada Global Holdings will open a 162-key Kimpton hotel in Tokyo.
The Kimpton Tokyo Shinjuku will open in 2020 in Shinjuku, the “skyscraper district” which is home to many of Tokyo’s tallest buildings.
“This hotel marks our fifth project in Asia in less than a year, further underscoring the broad appeal for boutique experiences among leisure and business travelers in the region,” said Mike DeFrino, CEO of Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants.
Tsukada Global Holdings, the owner of Kimpton Tokyo Shinjuku, is a long-time IHG development partner. The company owns four hotels including Intercontinental Tokyo Bay and The Strings by Intercontinental Tokyo.
“With construction having commenced and completion expected in early 2020, we will be well-positioned to take advantage of the increased domestic and international luxury tourism in the lead up to Tokyo 2020,” said Masayuki Tsukada, president and CEO of Tsukada Global Holdings. “We are confident that Kimpton’s striking modern luxury experience will stand out among its more traditional nearby hotel neighbors and will be a story of success.”
Kimpton currently has 66 hotels open globally with another 20 in the pipeline, including the Kimpton Bali, Kimpton Shanghai Jing’an, Kimpton Resort Sanya Haitang Bay and Kimpton Hotel Taipei.
