US: Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has bought Amara Resort & Spa, a 100-room creekside resort in Sedona, Arizona.

Amara, which opened in 2004, went into foreclosure in 2010 and was sold for $19.5 million to a Connecticut investment company in 2011. Kimpton has not disclosed how much it paid for the property.

Amara becomes Kimpton’s 59th hotel and its third in Arizona. It is scheduled for a multi-million dollar renovation over the winter

Joe Long, Kimpton’s executive vice president of development, said: “Everybody wants to go to Sedona. Our customer has somewhat of a bohemian nature in many ways. We think this is a natural fit for what people go to Sedona for.”
