Newark’s Ironbound neighbourhood to get Carvi boutique hotel

US: The 94-room Carvi Hotel in Newark will be only the third new hotel in the city in 40 years.

The Newark Zoning Board approved plans for the property last week and construction is expected to start in July.

Greg Comito of Comito Associates, the project architects, said the six-storey hotel will feature conference rooms, a café, lounge areas, a rear garden terrace and a business centre: “The demand for hotel space in the Ironbound is obvious. The hotel will be in easy walking distance to renowned restaurants and shops, with perfect access to the airports and Manhattan within what we see as European neighbourhood character.”

“The design of the building focuses on a six-story sky lit atrium,” Comito said. “There will be an incredible rooftop lounge, with views of both the Manhattan and Newark skyline. It will be a chic setting; we expect it will be an amenity that will draw guests to the hotel and become the place to stay Newark.”

The Carvi Newark will be the third property for the brand; the others are located in Manhattan and the Algarve.
