Soho House to convert former Midland Bank HQ where Bond villain met his end

UK: The former London headquarters of Midland Bank is to be turned in to a boutique hotel by the Soho House group.

The Grade I-listed property, designed by Edwin Lutyens and John Alfred Gotch, is located at 27-35 Poultry, in the heart of London’s Square Mile financial.

Soho House, which also operates the Dean Street Townhouse and Babington House hotels, will convert the building in to a 255-room hotel with restaurants, bars, spa and gym facilities and a swimming pool.

The building, at 27-35 Poultry, has been used as a location for Channel 4’s game show The Bank Job and its vaults featured in the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger. The sequence in which it Bond villain Oddjob  is killed by Sean Connery’s Bond was filmed there.

Soho House has also been linked with a hotel at the former BBC Television Centrebuilding in west London.
