UK: The five-star Mayfair hotel The Stafford London, along with its owner BHL Global, have been serviced a winding-up petition from HMRC.
BHL Global owns The Stafford Collection, which comprises the 107-room The Stafford London, the luxury Devon hotel Lympstone Manor, and the restaurant Norma in Fitzrovia.
Both The Stafford and Lympstone Manor feature restaurants by Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines.
Recent accounts (as of 31 December 2024) from BHL Global show that turnover fell five per cent to £30.5 million. The group cited pressure from an “increasingly competitive” luxury hotel market in London, alongside rising costs and labour shortages.
The HMRC action follows the departure of The Stafford London’s managing director John McLean, who stepped down from his role after a year with the property.
A spokesperson for the hotel said: “The Stafford is aware of the petition referenced in recent media coverage. The matter is currently being addressed through the appropriate channels. In the meantime, it remains business as usual at the Stafford, with the hotel continuing to deliver the high standards of service for which it is known.”
