Scotland: Malmaison has announced that it is to refurbish the vacant Tay Hotel, a listed 1889 building in Dundee.

Construction group Interserve has been appointed as main contractor on the project to create the Dundee Malmaison hotel. Work commenced last month and is scheduled for completion in June 2013.

The project forms part of the £1 billion Dundee Central Waterfront Development, which will include the new £45 million Victoria & Albert museum. Around 150 full- and part-time construction jobs have been created, with a further 120 new jobs to be made available once the hotel opens.

The 91-room property will feature a bar/lounge area with whisky snug and wine cellar, and a restaurant with a private dining room.

Scott Harper, brand director for Malmaison, said: “We are proud to be bringing Malmaison to Dundee, a city with a great heritage and an exciting future with the Waterfront Development and the V&A museum. Working with our partners Interserve we are looking forward to restoring the former Tay Hotel to its former glory with of course a contemporary Mal twist.”
