UK: Bristol’s Grade I-listed Portland Square is set to be the next location for an Artist Residence Hotel

The brand has lodged a planning application for a 36-room boutique hotel on the square. The building was originally built as a single-use home when Portland Square was first built at the turn of the nineteenth century, but has been since occupied by “militant squatters”, who, according to the hotel’s planning application, have vandalised the building’s original features.

The application said: “The opportunity to bring these vacant buildings back into use, given their significant heritage importance will facilitate a substantial improvement to the area’s built urban form.”

Artist Residence currently operates three hotels, in London, Brighton and Penzance.
