France: The M Social Hotel Paris, a four-star lifestyle hotel in the French capital, has been awarded Green Key certification.
Green Key certification is awarded to tourist properties that meet certain criteria of environmental management, energy consumption, waste management and customer awareness.
Part of Millennium Hotels and Resorts, The M Social Hotel Paris has introduced initiatives such as:
• Energy-saving measures in the guest rooms and public areas.
• A policy to reduce and sort waste.
• Cooking with local and seasonal produce in its restaurant, Papillons & Co.
• Initiatives to raise awareness of ecological issues among staff and guests.
The certification comes as the French parliament passed a law in 2021 for all tourist establishments to obtain one of various ecolabel accreditations by 2026. It formed part of the government’s plan to reduce emissions by 40 per cent by 2030.
Gilles Lodewyck, general manager of the M Social Hotel Paris, said: “Obtaining the Green Key is an important step for the M Social Hotel Paris. It reflects our determination to act in favour of responsible tourism and to offer our customers a stay where comfort and respect for the environment are perfectly combined. We would like to share this success with our guests and partners, and invite them to join us in our sustainable approach.”
Friderike Buckler, special projects manager EU and UK for Millennium, added: “This label marks a new stage in the sustainable approach of the M Social Hotel Paris and the Millennium Hotels and Resorts group. With the Green Key certification, the hotel is committed to continuing and strengthening its initiatives in favour of sustainable tourism.”
